Awesome! A great purchase for those who want the option of having a paper-like screen texture when writing (product on) and a clear HD display for watching videos, etc (product off).
I love to illustrate with Procreate on the 12.9" iPad Pro and, to be honest, I don't mind the feel of the Apple pencil on the unprotected glass of the tablet that much but since I plan to draw on the iPad a lot and come from a traditional paper-and-pencil background I felt the paper-like film would be a great addition.
I already have a paper-feel non-detachable adhesive film on my 6th gen regular iPad. I like it but installing it was a pain since the margin for error is very slim and I find its texture slightly too rough. This film came very well packaged in a semi-rigid plastic case. and in fact, the latter can be re-used to stow away the film if you decide to remove it. While getting your screen completely dust-free is still almost an impossibility, especially on a 12.9" screen, this detachable film is much more forgiving.
First of all, it does not use glue but clings to the screen through static so repositioning it is much easier and you can wipe off any dust that sticks to it just by using the provided microfibre cloth. Secondly, it is quite a bit thicker than the typical adhesive film so placing it, getting rid of air bubbles and peeling it off is less of a hassle and it feels fairly durable. Once properly installed, it stays in place and does not move around. I tried it right away in Procreate and love the texture. It has just enough tooth to give that paper feel without being too rough. It is a pleasure to draw on.
One thing though is that it does noticeably dim your screen and colors are slightly less vibrant. However, I did not find it enough of a negative to warrant the hassle of removing / re-installing the film every time so I plan to keep it on all the time. Users who watch a lot of videos on their iPad may feel differently
Overall, this is a great paper-like film that most iPad artists will enjoy -- I certainly do. At first, I was not sure what to expect from its repositionable aspect since I was only used to the adhesive type but now I have become a fan and will have a hard time going back to any other kind. At around $37, it is pricier than the adhesive films but I find the premium is well-justified thanks to its easier installation, superb texture, and enhanced durability.
The ScreenArtist Paperfeel Screen Protector for iPad Pro 12.9" has one primary purpose and that is to enhance the writing experience on your iPad, and it does excel in that area. However, like other matte or anti-glare screen protector, there is a negative impact on screen clarity and makes the display appear more grainy. The touch experience is also negatively impacted as there is more friction when swiping on the screen. This paper screen protector's key feature is the ability to detach the protector when you are not using it for writing as it only adheres on the left and right black border sections. With it on, the texture of the screen protector does significantly improve the writing experience with the Apple Pencil, which is great for note taking and sketching. It does mimic the feel of writing or drawing on paper.
Installing the screen protector is straight forward and even though it only adheres to the left and right, I would still recommend cleaning your iPad display with the included microfiber cloth. Given the rougher texture, this paper screen protector will likely wear down the nib of your Apple Pencil quicker than if using a glass screen protector. That is to be expected and having extra nibs is a good idea. You can detach the screen protector easily and store in it's protective sleeve. Overall, if the writing experience is important when using your iPad Pro but don't want to sacrifice screen clarity, this paper screen protector is an ideal option and a great value for under $25 when it goes on promo.
I use my iPad to draw a lot, and the glass is definitely a little too slick to emulate paper well. This is definitely better, but still not quite what I was hoping. It almost seems a little too aggressive, and I honestly worry that it’s wearing down the tip of my Apple Pencil like a very fine sand paper. I like that I can remove it easily, as I definitely wouldn’t like to have it on all them time due to the heavy matte finish it gives the screen. Adheres with two Black sticky strips on the long edges, and pulls off easily. Definitely not like a traditional screen cover . Overall i like it, but it’s going to take some getting used to
